I was walking along and random dude pointed out some books that were left in the rain, getting ruined. One was a dean koontz. Not into the genre. Another was a libretto for Grease, probably a broadway performance. Another was a book about Tolkien's works. The other was Something About a Mermaid. Cool, methinks. Take 'em home and salvage them. Just now I Opened the Mermaid one. It's autographed, "keep reading those good books, love Carolyn Polese" I will read it but can't right this moment. It reminds me too much of a young woman I met who calls herself Ariel (like from the Hans Christian Anderson story).I almost drowned one night chasing after that chick, (beautiful!!!) Sometime later I was talking with a friend about that night and she says mermaids have piranha teeth. I'd never heard that before in the myths. Weirdest part was that when I first met her, I remember her smiling and I sear it looked like her teeth were sharp trianglesAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17718437423528197156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533133965216846065.post-53473616830690731592020-02-25T10:56:37.441-08:002020-02-25T10:56:37.441-08:00this book is great for rp and a lot of mers in the...this book is great for rp and a lot of mers in the comunity I found use the language in this book. beatrixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08122648061704728271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533133965216846065.post-87134378383118380742018-08-29T18:24:03.781-07:002018-08-29T18:24:03.781-07:00Hi there, I need a help! A mermaid is sort of an outcast with no friends until she is paired with another mermaid and when they sing they create beautiful things. They get to go to the mainland with a group of young merpeople to visit the kingdom. They each have their own special knife and when they are on shore they use the knife to cut their fin into legs. The only way to get their fin back is to use the same knife and only if the knife has not touched any other organic material. She is tricked by her singing partner/best friend and the Mer prince and she is unable to get her fin back because they used her knife without her knowing. Tge mer Prince steals the fire she is able to create with her singing. And then they abandon her on land. But she discovers her real mom was human and possibly a witch? I cannot find this book title for the life of me and I believe it was going to be a series and I’d really like to read #2. Thank you so much! Lost Voices is...Sirenita, I agree with your review. Lost Voices is a sad story. Although it's been a couple of years since I read it, I recall the hope offered the wounded women is that they become mermaids--their pain essentially births them into a new life.

In a deeper sense, the story reminds me that no human life is without pain.

If I may "step" onto a soap box for just a moment,
sometimes we are dealt pain that make us feel angry, depressed, and destructive. But, we can't just snap our fingers (or change into mermaids!) and forget.

Lost Voices, to me, represents that fantasy that we CAN forget, and I love that the author brings in reality-- no trauma and no pain is healed unless we go through that healing process. It's implied that the mermaids lose their humanity, but interesting that they never lose their human emotions. It isn't long before the mermaids turn on each other and they think that sinking ships to kill innocent people with their siren song will cure the pain that is in them, give them some sort of satisfaction.

I think those of us that choose not to recover and do the work of healing (or let that work happen), choose evil instead. Because hurt people hurt people, after all.

I speak from experience.

I was a victim of abuse from an alcoholic parent and then in my later relationships.

I eventually healed, but in the meantime I also hurt a lot of people. Pain changed me, hardened me. Healing softened me.

Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts. I've been wanting to discuss it since I read it.

Luce's story is a trilogy, too, isn't it?

I may go back and read the other 2 in the author's series.

Thanks, always for your honest reviews. I love your site! Please keep up the great work!
Vanessahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12769175638485391014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533133965216846065.post-35195780317517016272018-05-13T15:19:12.627-07:002018-05-13T15:19:12.627-07:00Have you been watching the new Freeform series Sir...Have you been watching the new Freeform series Siren? In fact, he was taken straight out of the ocean and forced to coexist with very hostile matriarch females. They would often abuse him or "put him into place" if you will. This, plus the fact that orcas never leave their mothers, physcologically damaged Tilikum. If you would like to know more on his story, please check out the book mentioned in this comment, or visit http://theorcaproject.wordpress.com/ to learn more about Tilikum and other stories of whales in captivity.
Thank you,
Sirenita The SelkieSirenita The Selkiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09962754049229481009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533133965216846065.post-19263723809044921522014-05-24T17:18:55.996-07:002014-05-24T17:18:55.996-07:00Although your argument is persuasive, it is not so...Although your argument is persuasive, it is not solely the trainer or the attractions fault as to why the Orcas decide to lose control. Yes, this is YEARS after the whole Dawn and Tilly incident, but... After ther first 2 deaths you would think they'd done something to prevent a third. An orca has the name Killer Whale for a reason. Next to a great white, they are very powerful and very lethal. But, to my knowledge, Tilly was born and raised in captivity. If you turn an animal loose into the wild from being in captivity, that animal will not last long. So, your comment is valid but yet it is invalid.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09866556114306591869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533133965216846065.post-63981361050003540842014-03-23T14:28:58.902-07:002014-03-23T14:28:58.902-07:00Hello D.G. I have always loved the folklore and mythology surrounding the sea people. I really enjoyed Helen Dunmore's Ingo series. I also love The Little Mermaid (not the Disney version particularly) and the edition you have reviewed looks stunning. Later this year, I intend to publish a novel that has selkies at its heart. The book I am on the verge of publishing doesn't involve mermaids, though they do feature in another manuscript I will be reworking with a view to publishing next year. You can keep an eye out at julialundauthor.wordpress.com if you are interested. I shall certainly look out for some of the books you have reviewed.
